     The Afterschool Program is currently offered for students in grades 2nd through 5th.  One goal is to provide reading intervention in grade 2.  The second goal is to provide test preparation skills in the areas of ELA and Mathematics.  The program operates Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:30 – 5:00.  Snacks and transportation are provided.

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

  • RIT DAY

    RIT is the unit of measure used by NWEA to measure student’s progress on the MAP Test. On RIT Day(Wednesdays), students receive interventions based on their MAP test results and other assessments. The day is devoted to differentiating instruction based on students’ academic needs.

    Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) are K – 12 interim assessments that measure growth, project proficiency on high-stakes tests, and inform how educators differentiate instruction, evaluate programs, and structure curriculum. Computer adaptive MAP assessments reveal precisely which academic skills and concepts the student has acquired and what he/she is ready to learn. Teachers utilize the data to make informed decisions to promote a child’s academic growth and prepare the student for academic success.

  • Case Assessments – TE21

    This academic school year DOES is utilizing TE21 benchmark tests.  Administered quarterly, these assessments are aligned to Common Core.  Teachers receive feedback within 48 hours.  The data is analyzed and used to determine students’ academic progress, need for remediation, and to reinforce skills needed to prepare students for the state assessments. These assessments are given three times a year to determine students' mastery of the curriculum throughout the school year.  Students are given a grade on these assessments.

  • In compliance with the state department of education's Read To Succeed initiative, DOES has a reading coach.  Read To Succeed, a systemic and comprehensive approach to reading, involves:

     Improving classroom instruction

     

    Early identification (4K through grade 2) of struggling readers

    		  Interventions to assist struggling readers upon identification

    Notification to parent or guardian when a child is identified as a struggling reader 

     Improving inservices training of teachers

     

    Requiring state and district reading plans

    Connect reading instruction to statewide goals of colleges and career readiness
