Students who are actively engaged learn more than passive learners.  Therefore, at DOES, we strive to involve all students in the learning process.

At Denmark Olar Elementary School, we believe that reading is fundamental.  Therefore, students are allotted time to read on a daily basis.  Teachers monitor the reading process by having academic conversations with students about their reading progress.  Students also track their reading by maintaining a reading log.  The goal is for students to become skilled, passionate, habitual readers.  Parents can aid this process by making sure students read 20 minutes per day, creating a quiet place for reading, and reading with the students.
