  • COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH EDUCATION

In compliance with the 1984 Comprehensive Health Education Act, which emphasizes age-appropriate instruction in reproductive health, Denmark-Olar Elementary 4th and 5th grade students are engaged in a curricular entitled. "Sex Can Wait", an abstinence education curriculum for upper elementary schools.  The program is designed to get students to focus on who they are as individuals.  It fosters self-worth, builds self-esteem and emphasizes making positive choices.

  • Healthy Schools Initiatives

Denmark-Olar Elementary is off to a healthy start.  This year the faculty, staff, and students are embarking on healthy choices.  Food service, through a USDA grant, has initiated a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program that will enable students to receive a fresh fruit and/or vegetable as an afternoon snack.  A nutritionist from the SNAP-Ed program visits the school weekly to introduce and reinforce healthy food choices.  To get the DOES Family up and moving, MUSC has included Denmark-Olar Elementary School in its Adopt A School Wellness Initiative.  The focus is on healthy choices for everyone in the building and exercising to tone the body.  The district has done an outstanding job in promoting health; it’s time to take heed to all the advice and opportunities before us.
